Manjaveyil Maranangal is the story of one woman's life, from her childhood into old age. She feels that she has no choice but to just wait and see if her husband has changed or not. Her narration of what made him go out and drink, is an emotional journey as we see just how deep his addiction runs and how he sometimes tells lies and pretends sleep to avoid going out to drink. As the reader moves further into the story of her husband's alcoholism, her memories of their growing old together become an emotional roller coaster, where she is forced to suffer alone through his drinking. She struggles with guilt and questioning if she should have done something differently to prevent this. Finally, the reader is taken through a series of scenes which highlight how alcoholism affects a persons behavior and their relationships with family and friends. This section also highlights how people must stand up against such a disease and not be scared to talk about it. The narration of one man's fight against alcoholism helps highlight how he can never quench his thirst for alcohol at night even after knowing what it would do to him later on in life. The end is a series of scenes depicting her fall into old age with her husband, as she is fed up crying all by herself. She finally feels free as she doesn't have to hide from her husband anymore.
